A Greek Holiday Villa
Chrani, Messinias
Self-catering accommodation: sleeps up to 8 people
What a truly delightful place to spend a vacation! We have owned Villa Kefi for a couple of years and have absolutely fallen in love with this lovely Greek holiday villa. We think you will too. Most of the photos here were taken last winter, hence the log fire burning in the fireplace and the snow on the mountains!
Villa Kefi is an excellent Greek holiday villa either for families or groups of friends. With two double bedrooms, one bedroom with a double and a single bed, and two convertible beds in the living room, it sleeps 7 comfortably.
The covered terrace running down the side of the house opens into a large barbecue area with an outdoor kitchen and bar, ideal for parties or just relaxing with the family. There is a lovely garden full of fruit trees, palm trees and roses, which surrounds two sides of the house.
Sitting in the shade on the terrace, you can look down the little lane lined with lemon trees on one side and bougainvillaea on the other, across the sparkling blue sea to the magical mountains of the Mani.
At the bottom of the lane less than 100 metres from the house, on one side
there is a pretty sand and pebble beach which has lovely safe swimming and never gets crowded. On the other side there are rocky coves to explore where the sea is crystal clear for snorkelling. With half-a-dozen tavernas serving delicious local food and a couple of mini markets within a few minutes walk, you need stir no further to relax, soak up the sun and enjoy your holiday.
* 'Kefi' is a very special Greek word meaning an abundance of exuberance and fun, the feeling when you're so bursting with life you just have to sing or dance or - this being Greece - smash some plates (not ours, please).
Chrani

Our Greek holiday villa, Villa Kefi, is in Chrani, which is on the east side of the Messiania peninsular in the Peloponnese. Chrani is a hidden sort of place easily missed on the road from Kalamata to Koroni but being only half-an-hour away from Kalamata airport it is easily accessible by car, bus or taxi. You won't find many English tourists here. In fact you won't find many foreign tourists at all.
Situated midway between the little seaside town of Petalidi, which has an excellent fresh fish market, and the historic Venetian port of Koroni (see Places to visit) with its magnificent fortress, Chrani is a sleepy resort by day and only wakes up enough at night to offer cocktails in Mary's lovely garden, a romantic dinner watching the moon rise from the terrace of the Veranda Taverna, some excellent food in all the local tavernas and an occasional outbreak of Greek dancing at the Hellas Restaurant. If, however, you yearn for a little more excitement by day, you can wander down the beach about a kilometre to the lively beach bar which offers sunbeds, drinks, snacks, music and volleyball. Petalidi and Koroni, both about 15 minutes drive away (there is also quite a good bus service) have a greater variety of restaurants and bars and even a disco.
